Who we are
Movigo helps solo movie-goers find people to attend the same cinema showings. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We collect only what the app needs to work.
Information you provide
Account: your email address and password (passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider, never in plain text).
Profile: display name, date of birth (used only to confirm you are 18+ and to show your age — your birth date is never shown to other members), gender (used only to honour plans set for women or men), a short bio, favourite genres and vibes, an optional profile photo, and an optional location you choose from a search list.
Activity: the plans you create or join, chat messages within those plans, ratings you give after an outing, and any blocks or reports you submit.
Optional Letterboxd link: if you connect a Letterboxd handle, we read your public profile to show your favourite films and improve taste matching. We never receive your Letterboxd password.
Information collected automatically
A device push token (if you enable notifications) so we can send you alerts about your plans.
Basic technical data needed to operate the service (e.g. timestamps). We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
How we use it
To create your account and profile, match you with compatible movie-goers, run plan groups and chats, show local showtimes, send notifications you have opted into, and keep the community safe (handling blocks and reports).
We do not sell your personal information.
What other members see
Other members can see your display name, age, city, bio, genres, vibes, photo, and — once a Mystery Mode plan is revealed or in a standard plan — that you are attending. They never see your email, date of birth, exact coordinates, or password.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account & security. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and associated data (plans you own, memberships, ratings, messages you sent are disassociated). This cannot be undone.
Security
Data is stored with our infrastructure provider (Supabase) and protected by row-level security so members can only access what they are permitted to. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
Movigo is strictly for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Your choices
You can edit your profile, manage notification preferences, change your password, block or report members, and delete your account — all from within the app.
